Winter Guard

The Courtland High School Winter Guard performs as its’ own ensemble during the winter sports season.  This activity takes place indoors, most often in the gymnasium.  The Winter Guard performs a show typically lasting 4-6 minutes, set to recorded music of the director’s choosing.  The Winter Guard activity often gives Color Guard members the opportunity to explore even more intricate forms of dance, movement, choreography and equipment work.  The Courtland Winter Guard participates in competitions in Virginia and North Carolina.  These events are sanctioned by one of two governing bodies, The Atlantic Indoor Association (AIA) or Winter Guard International (WGI).  The Winter Guard is competitive on a local, regional, and National level.  Membership in the Winter Guard is selected from the Fall Color Guard or by auditions held in the late fall.
