Spotsylvania Showcase Reminder/Update

Good Afternoon!

I just wanted to give everyone the latest update on tonight’s Showcase.

The times for this afternoon and this evening will remain the same.

Here are the 3 performance scenarios…

1) If the rain stops, and the field drains and is suitable for marching, we will be doing the field shows as planned. (Highly Unlikely)

2) If the rain stops, and the field is too wet for us to perform, we will do stand still performances on the track in the stadium. We will still do a full performance of “God Bless America.”

3) If the rain continues into the evening, we will do stand still performances in the Gym. If we are inside, we will do a Seniors only performance of “God Bless America.”

I will keep everyone posted as new information is available.

I hope to see you all tonight! Please, remember that admission is free, but we are asking for donations “at the door” to benefit Treasure House. See the attached poster for items that they need. Thanks for your help and support!

Schedule Changes/Updates for RBMB (11/1-11/5)

Good Evening.

Here are some changes/updates to the RBMB schedule for the next few days.

Once again, the weather has brought about a change in the Varsity Football schedule. The game at Spotsylvania, that was originally scheduled for Friday, has been moved to Thursday evening. As a result, we will not be going to the game.

We will have rehearsal on Thursday to run through the show a few times, to go over “God Bless America” for the Showcase, and to do our Senior Run-Through.

Friday’s Rehearsal is cancelled. NO REHEARSAL ON FRIDAY!

On Monday, we will meet at 3:00 to do a quick rehearsal for the Spotsylvania County Showcase which will be held Monday evening at 7:00 at Spotsy High School. We will provide a meal deal on Monday at 4:30. Buses will leave CHS at 5:30 PM. We will perform 3rd at the Showcase…probably about 7:30.

Please, don’t forget about the Fall Festival and Car Show on Saturday from 10-3. Keep your eyes open for more information about this event.

If you have any questions about the schedule for the next few days, please let me know.

Thanks!

With Pride!!

Update for Thursday, 10/25/18

Here is the plan for Thursday, 10/25/18…

All RBMB students should wear their class colors for school tomorrow. Don’t forget to bring your show shirt to wear for the game tomorrow night. Bring clothes to layer under your uniform. It is supposed to get down into the low-mid 40’s tomorrow night.

We will be performing at the Pep Rally tomorrow afternoon. This is not optional. Only students who are participating in the Banner Parade will be excused from playing at the Pep Rally. All RBMB students should report to the Band Room at 1:30 PM. I have sent an email to all CHS and SCTC teachers.

We will have rehearsal after school from 2:45-4:30. Dinner (Castiglia’s) will be served at 4:30. Senior Parents are invited to join us for Dinner. Senior Activities will take place prior to the start of the game.

Students will dress in full uniform at 5:30. We will warm-up at 6:00. We will march to the stadium at approximately 6:10. Senior Recognition will begin in the stadium at 6:30. The game starts at 7:00. We will be performing our full show at half time, prior to the Homecoming festivities. Following the game, we will return to the Band Room, put away all equipment, return uniforms, etc.

On Friday, we will have rehearsal during our regular time, 3:00-5:30.

I am still working on a couple details for Saturday (and waiting to see if the forecast changes) before sending out the itinerary. I will send it out as early as possible.

Thanks! If you have any questions, please let me know.

With Pride,

Mr. Leonard

Update – Homecoming/Senior Night Game moved to Thursday, 10/25 at 7:00

Due to the weather outlook for Friday, the Varsity Football Game vs. Caroline (Homecoming and Senior Night) has been moved to Thursday, 10/25 at 7:00 PM.

Seniors and Senior parents should watch for an email from Julie Bean regarding timing for dinner and Senior Night Activities. Seniors, please complete the information form that I sent out as soon as possible.

As for Saturday (VBODA State Marching Assessment), there is a plan in place for inclement weather. We are working to make sure the students are prepared for all possible performance scenarios for Saturday. As of now, the plan is to be performing in the stadium at Massaponax. If that changes, I will notify everyone as soon as possible.

All of that being said, I am working to revise our rehearsal plans and the itinerary for this weekend. Once it is finalized, I will get the itinerary emailed out to everyone. I hope to be able to have that out later tonight.

Thanks, in advance, for your patience and flexibility.

With Pride!

TWIB Notes – Week of September 24, 2018

TWIB (This Week In Band) Notes Are Back!! With the school year in full swing and the Marching Band Competition season getting underway, I will be sending out my weekly emails to inform and remind you of the events for that week. If you have any questions about what is going on in the Courtland Band Program, please feel free to email me at CourtlandBD@gmail.com. Also, remember to check the Band Calendar on the website (www.courtlandbands.com) for a complete list of events and activities.

This coming Thursday, we will be taking measurements for our Concert Attire. We will be doing this during the Band Classes. If you are in Concert Band, Jazz Band, or Wind Ensemble you will need to get measured on Thursday. Jazz Band Students who are not in Concert Band or Wind Ensemble should stop by during their lunch blocks to be fitted. This year, we are doing things a little differently. The Tuxes and Dresses that we currently have in inventory are more than 12 years old and many are in pretty bad shape. This year, we are having each student purchase their own Concert Attire. These items will be used for all performances throughout the year. The ladies will be purchasing formal black dresses ($60) and the guys will be purchasing tuxedos ($90) which will include the jacket, pants, a shirt, cummerbund and bow tie. Students will need to have the appropriate black dress shoes to go with their Concert Attire. Payment for the Concert Attire will be due by October 8th. You can pay by check (payable to the CBPA) or by points if you have them in your account. We are offering a fundraiser (Yankee Candle) that can be used to offset the cost of the tuxes and dresses. Information for the fundraiser is available from Mr. Leonard. We will have more information, later in the year, about possible buy-back or consignment options for students who graduate or who may outgrow their Concert Attire. We will share that information later in the Spring. Again, if you have any questions, please let me know.

The first RBMB (Royal Brigade Marching Band) Competition is coming up this Saturday at Riverbend High School. I will be sending out a complete itinerary later in the day on Tuesday that will cover our schedule for Friday’s game at Chancellor and the competition at Riverbend. I hope you will come out and support the RBMB this Saturday. We will be performing at 11:45 AM in the Stadium at Riverbend High School.

We continue to need volunteers to help work the Knights of Pythias Bingo events on Sundays (11:30-3:00) and Mondays (4:30-8:00). Please, sign up in CHARMS if you are able to help. KOP donates $500 a month to the CHS Band Program for our help with these events.

Important Note for Chaperones and Pit Crew Parents for Football Games: Please make sure you sign up in CHARMS if you would like to help at a football game. Only those parents who are signed up will be allowed to enter through the back gate with the band. We have a limited number of people who can go through with the band. Also, family members (spouses, children, etc.) must go through the main gate and pay admission into the games. If you are a County employee and are using your ID Badge (and a plus one), you must go through the main gate.
