Playoff Game – Friday, 11/10/17

Good Morning! Here is the schedule for Friday’s Playoff Game at Louisa County High School.

5:00 PM – Call Time for RBMB Members (Winds, Percussion, Guard). Eat Dinner before you arrive. We will visit concessions at half time (time permitting).

****NOTE**** We will not be wearing uniforms. Students should wear their warm-ups with lots of layers underneath. It is going to be cold (lows in the upper 20’s). If you feel that you need to wear a heavier “winter” coat over the warm-ups, that is fine. Wear Gloves and Winter Hats as needed. We want to show our Courtland Spirit, yes, but I want you to be as warm as possible. Wear appropriate footwear to keep your feet warm as well. If you have any questions about what is acceptable, feel free to ask. The bottom line is…do what you need to do stay warm and still be able to play your instrument properly. STAY WARM, BE SMART!!

5:05 PM – Load Trailer. We are not performing the show. We only need to load the equipment we need for playing in the stands.

5:30 PM – Load Buses, Depart for Louisa
6:30 PM – Arrive at Louisa HS, Unload, Take seats in Stadium, Prep for Game.
7:30 PM – Game Time
9:30 PM – As soon as the game ends, Load Trailer, Load Buses, Leave for CHS
10:30 PM – Return to CHS, Unload Trailer, Put Everything Away
11:00 PM – Dismissal – Go Home, Get Warm, and Have a Great Weekend!!

If you have any questions or schedule conflicts with Friday, please email me and let me know.

Thanks!

With Pride!

Mr. Leonard

TWIB Notes – Week of October 30, 2017

Here are this week’s TWIB Notes…

Concert Band will have an after-school rehearsal on Monday, October 30th, from 2:30-4:00 in the Band Room. Attendance at this rehearsal is mandatory for all Concert Band Members. This is our only rehearsal prior to Wednesday’s Concert.

The Fall Concert is on Wednesday, November 1st at 7:00 PM in the Auditorium. The Concert will feature performances by The Concert Band and The Wind Ensemble. If you have any questions about the concert attire for this event, please feel free to email me.

The Royal Brigade Marching Band did a great job this past weekend at The VBODA State Marching Assessment and The Powhatan Fall Classic. These were our best shows of the season!! They received 2 Superior ratings and 5 Excellent ratings from the judges at VBODA for an overall rating of Excellent. At Powhatan, they won Best Percussion and Best Drum Major…and finished 6th out of 21 Bands in A, AA, and AAA.

The RBMB will NOT have rehearsal on Tuesday this week. We WILL rehearse on Thursday and Friday at our regular times. Friday is our final regular season home game. We will honor our Seniors this Friday. So, please come out and show your appreciation for all that they have given to the program over the past few years.

LOOKING AHEAD…

The Spotsylvania County Marching Band Showcase will be held next Monday night at Spotsylvania High School. I will be sending out more information later this week.

District Band Auditions are right around the corner (December 9th at Colonial Forge High School). ALL students are strongly encouraged to audition. We also use the District Auditions to select the Spotsylvania All-County Band. We do not hold separate auditions at the high school level. So, students who want to participate in All-County Band must audition for District Band. The District Auditions are comprised of scales (All 12 Major Scales + Chromatic), Sight Reading, and a Prepared Piece. The Prepared Pieces will be released by VBODA and will be available later this week. I will have sign up sheets posted in the Band Room starting Thursday, November 2nd. The deadline to sign up is Monday, November 27th. Guest Conductors this year are Dr. Matthew McCutchen (University of South Florida) and Alan Johnson (Westfield High School). They are both fantastic!! I would love to see 40-50 (or more) students audition this year!!

Have a great week! I look forward to seeing everyone at the Concert on Wednesday and at the Game on Friday!!

With Pride!

We need volunteers to help with The Knights of Pythias Bingo. They donate $500 a month to the Courtland Band Program to help with the purchase of new uniforms, concert attire, and instruments.

TWIB Notes – Week of 9/25/17

Here are the TWIB Notes for this week…

Chair Placement Auditions are currently taking place for all Concert Band and Wind Ensemble students. We hope to have those wrapped up on Wednesday of this week. Placements will be posted on Thursday morning by the end of Cougar AM.

Reminder – Students are reminded to make sure they have the correct books for their class. Don’t forget to bring the books with you to every rehearsal.

Students are strongly encouraged to use Cougar AM as a time to come to the Band Room and practice. There is limited space in the practice rooms, but students are welcome to work throughout the Band Room. This is a great time to hold sectional rehearsals, to work with other students, or to simply get in some individual practice time.

Students should have received an invitation to join their respective ensembles in Google Classroom. The invitations were sent out to their student GAPPS email addresses. Please, make sure that you follow the instructions in the email to accept the invitation to “join” the class/ensemble. We will use Google Classroom for many of our assignments throughout the year. Playing Tests and Listening Assignments will all be posted in and collected through Google Classroom. If you did not receive the email invitations, please let me know. I can give you the class codes and you can join through Google Classroom. Additionally, Google Classroom has a free “App” that you can download for iOS and Android Devices. While this is not required, it is highly recommended.

Coffee Fundraiser – We have just started a fundraiser for the Courtland Bands. We are selling Coffee!! We are partnering with Orange County Roasters, a local coffee roaster, to offer 12 oz. Bags of Coffee (Whole Bean or Ground) for $12 per bag. We are offering 7 different types of coffee. It is great coffee!!! I have attached a copy of the order form for you to print. Orders are due by October, 11, 2017. The purpose of this fundraiser is to give students an opportunity earn points for their Band Account. These points can be applied to their band fees(dues), trips, etc. Students earn 5.5 points for each bag of coffee sold.

The RBMB will have a normal rehearsal schedule this week – Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 3:00-5:15 PM. On Friday, we have our second home game of the season against Chancellor. This will also be our Middle School Band Night.

On Saturday, the RBMB travels to Hermitage High School for the Hermitage Classic Band Competition. We perform at 1:30 PM. Come out and support the RBMB! The itinerary for this weekend (Friday and Saturday) will be emailed out on Wednesday afternoon!

Thanks to everyone who came out to Riverbend this past Saturday to cheer on the RBMB! Special Thanks to our amazing Chaperones and Pit Crew!! You ALL are the BEST!!!

As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to email me.

Have a Great Week!!
