TWIB (This Week In Band) Notes Are Back!! With the school year in full swing and the Marching Band Competition season getting underway, I will be sending out my weekly emails to inform and remind you of the events for that week. If you have any questions about what is going on in the Courtland Band Program, please feel free to email me at CourtlandBD@gmail.com. Also, remember to check the Band Calendar on the website (www.courtlandbands.com) for a complete list of events and activities.
This coming Thursday, we will be taking measurements for our Concert Attire. We will be doing this during the Band Classes. If you are in Concert Band, Jazz Band, or Wind Ensemble you will need to get measured on Thursday. Jazz Band Students who are not in Concert Band or Wind Ensemble should stop by during their lunch blocks to be fitted. This year, we are doing things a little differently. The Tuxes and Dresses that we currently have in inventory are more than 12 years old and many are in pretty bad shape. This year, we are having each student purchase their own Concert Attire. These items will be used for all performances throughout the year. The ladies will be purchasing formal black dresses ($60) and the guys will be purchasing tuxedos ($90) which will include the jacket, pants, a shirt, cummerbund and bow tie. Students will need to have the appropriate black dress shoes to go with their Concert Attire. Payment for the Concert Attire will be due by October 8th. You can pay by check (payable to the CBPA) or by points if you have them in your account. We are offering a fundraiser (Yankee Candle) that can be used to offset the cost of the tuxes and dresses. Information for the fundraiser is available from Mr. Leonard. We will have more information, later in the year, about possible buy-back or consignment options for students who graduate or who may outgrow their Concert Attire. We will share that information later in the Spring. Again, if you have any questions, please let me know.
The first RBMB (Royal Brigade Marching Band) Competition is coming up this Saturday at Riverbend High School. I will be sending out a complete itinerary later in the day on Tuesday that will cover our schedule for Friday’s game at Chancellor and the competition at Riverbend. I hope you will come out and support the RBMB this Saturday. We will be performing at 11:45 AM in the Stadium at Riverbend High School.
We continue to need volunteers to help work the Knights of Pythias Bingo events on Sundays (11:30-3:00) and Mondays (4:30-8:00). Please, sign up in CHARMS if you are able to help. KOP donates $500 a month to the CHS Band Program for our help with these events.
Important Note for Chaperones and Pit Crew Parents for Football Games: Please make sure you sign up in CHARMS if you would like to help at a football game. Only those parents who are signed up will be allowed to enter through the back gate with the band. We have a limited number of people who can go through with the band. Also, family members (spouses, children, etc.) must go through the main gate and pay admission into the games. If you are a County employee and are using your ID Badge (and a plus one), you must go through the main gate.
