TWIB Notes – February 12, 2018

Here are some important notes for this week and a couple of reminders about upcoming events.

Winter Drum Line will have their regularly scheduled rehearsals this week, M/W/F from 6:00-9:00 PM

Winter Guard will have rehearsals on T/Th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM

Both of these groups are gearing up for their first competition of the season this coming Saturday, 2/17, at Forest Park High School (Prince William County). Students and parents should check their email for itineraries that will be sent out by the respective staff members from each group. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!!

Julie Bean will be holding a Chaperone Training this coming Friday at 6:00 in the Choir Room. If you will be chaperoning for one of our Winter Groups and have not completed the Chaperone Training, you must do so before we can add you the list of approved chaperones. If you have any questions, please email Julie at cbpapresident@gmail.com.

I know we just sent out an email over the weekend…but…please, remember…we need volunteers for KOP Bingo on Sunday afternoons and Monday evenings. You can earn points, get free food, and help out with one of our best fundraisers. Contact Josh LeBlanc at cbpa2ndvp@gmail.com if you have any questions. You can sign up to volunteer in CHARMS. Thanks!!

The VBODA District Assessment is coming up on March 22nd and 23rd. This Assessment is for our Concert Band and Wind Ensemble. I will have more specific schedule information as it becomes available. Leading up to the District Assessment, we will have several after-school rehearsals for each group. These rehearsals are mandatory. I have talked with the students about conflicts with spring sports practices and we will work something out between the coaches, the students, and myself. The rehearsals will run from 2:30-4:00 PM. Often times, we have guest clinicians come in to work with us during these rehearsals. Many of these clinicians have driven more than an hour to get here. If we do not have everyone at these rehearsals, then, we are wasting the time of the clinicians. Attendance will be taken and these rehearsals will count toward the students’ performance grade for the third 9-weeks. Here are the dates:

Concert Band – 2/26, 3/5, 3/12, 3/19
Wind Ensemble – 2/21, 2/28, 3/7, 3/14

Please, mark your calendars. Additionally, students should be working hard in their at-home practice time on the music for Assessment. Recordings of the music have been posted in Google Classroom. They can listen, study their parts, and even practice along with the recordings.

As always, thanks for ALL you do to help make our Band Program the best it can possibly be. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

With Pride!

Mr. Leonard
